The leaves are 3 - 9 cm long and the flowers are produced in short racemes ,the fruit is a pod (dry fruit) 6 -9 cm long containing one or two seeds .The chinese interpretation for the indian word "CHANDAN" for red andalwood .The area is characterised by hot dry climate with around 100nm of rain in each of the two annual monsoons .The trees are found in the dry hill areas.
